1. About this privacy notice
This privacy notice explains how StringLite collects and uses personal information through this website. StringLite is the responsible party for the personal information described here and processes it in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
If you have a privacy question, want to exercise a right, or wish to complain about our processing, email stringlite@stringlite.co.za.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the website, we may collect:
- your name, surname, company, email address, telephone numbers and message when you contact us;
- your marketing preference when you submit the contact form;
- a username, email address, securely hashed password, game scores and related account information when you create or use a game account;
- technical information normally recorded by web servers, such as your IP address, browser type, requested pages, date and time of access, and security or error logs; and
- session, login-preference and game-setting information stored through cookies or browser storage.
Please do not submit information that is not reasonably needed for your enquiry or account.
3. Why we use your information
We use personal information to:
- receive, respond to and keep a record of enquiries;
- send marketing communications where permitted and record requests not to receive them;
- create and secure game accounts, provide password resets, remember logins and record scores;
- operate, maintain, troubleshoot and protect the website;
- detect misuse, fraud or security incidents; and
- comply with legal obligations and establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We process information where you consent, where processing is necessary to provide a service you request, where the law requires it, or where a legitimate interest justifies it without unfairly affecting your rights.
4. Whether information is required
Providing information is generally voluntary. Fields marked as required are needed to send an enquiry or provide the relevant account function. If you do not provide them, we may be unable to respond or provide that function.
5. Sharing and operators
We may share information with service providers that help us host, secure, maintain or communicate through the website. They may use it only for the agreed service and must protect it appropriately. We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect legitimate rights, or as part of a lawful business reorganisation.
Some service providers may process information outside South Africa. Where this occurs, we will use a lawful basis and reasonable safeguards required by POPIA.
6. Marketing
If you indicate that you may be contacted about products or services, we may use the contact details you supplied for that purpose where the law permits. You may object or withdraw consent at any time by using the opt-out provided in a message or by emailing us. This will not affect ordinary service or enquiry communications.
7. Cookies and browser storage
We use essential cookies and local browser storage for security, sessions, optional remembered login, game preferences and remembering that the cookie notice has been dismissed. See our Cookie Policy for details.
8. Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide an active account or service, to meet legal and record-keeping obligations, and to resolve disputes. Retention periods differ by record. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer lawfully required, subject to backups and legal holds.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. If a security compromise affects your personal information, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected people where POPIA requires it.
10. Your rights
Subject to POPIA and other applicable law, you may ask whether we hold personal information about you, request access to it, ask us to correct or delete inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, outdated, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained information, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing. We may need proof of identity before acting on a request.
11. Complaints
Please contact us first so that we can try to resolve your concern. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) through its official website at inforegulator.org.za, by email at enquiries@inforegulator.org.za, or by telephone on 010 023 5200.
